David had little option but to start playing with The Felling Band at an early age as his grandfather, Maurice Grainger was secretary and Eb bass player. Moving from tenor horn on to baritone and then quickly onto Euphonium he then moved to The Westoe Colliery Band and then to Newcastle Brown Ale as Solo Euphonium.

David has also performed throughout the country as a vocal soloist and with The Felling Male Voice Choir, where he was Musical Director for a number of years. He is now Musical Director of Lemington Male Voice Choir in Newcastle. After a break from banding of around 10 years, David has returned to The Felling Band and, once again, is enjoying performing and contesting with the band.

David has been involved and has led many musical events in the North East including the 2008 Angel Proms at The Sage Gateshead and is involved annually with the Army Benevolent Fundraiser.

David graduated from Open University and gained his Masters degree from University of Sunderland where he works as Head of Systems. He has one daughter, Rebecca, who is learning piano and will hopefully take up brass.
