The massed band concert is to be directed by Ray Farr and feature a number of brass band classics.
We look forward to Ray Farr visiting our band room in Lamesley over the next couple of weeks to take us through the concert program in preparation.

In the meantime we are also preparing for the Spring Festival at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on the 15th May where we will be competing for the Senior Trophy. This year the set test piece is Le Roi d’Ys by Edouard Lalo arr. Frank Wright.

'The Sounds of Felling'
Last month saw the band performing at the local concert venue The Sage Gateshead presented by The Mayor of Gateshead. The night was a return from last year’s charity concert where we joined our local friends The Felling Male Voice Choir to raise money for Help for Heroes, A.D.D.E.R (Action for Dystonia, Diagnosis, Education and Research) and the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund.
Our Musical Director Graeme Tindall compiled an American themed program which featured a lively start in Leigh Bakers arrangement of All Night Long by Lionel Richie. This soon grabbed the attention of the audience and was followed by the rest of our American repertoire.....

The concert was great success and was concluded with an honor of thanks and acknowledgement to the charities by Mayor of Gateshead, Councilor John Eagle.
More recently the band performed at the Gateshead Visitors Centre in celebration to St Georges Day. The band was delighted to be invited back once again this year to perform a series of popular concert items concluding with the old favorite ‘The Floral Dance’ which left everyone with a smirk on their face!

North of England Brass Band Championships 2010
Following weeks of a committed hard working band and an enduring conductor, last weekend brought the annual North of England Band Championships. This gave the band to fight for a qualification spot for the National Championships in London later this year.
This year the band was faced with George Lloyd’s ‘English Heritage’. The piece which is approximately 17 minutes long features a considerable amount of technical work and bold lyrical sections with testing features for each of our soloists.
Drawn number 3, the band responded well to Musical Director, Graeme Tindall’s reading of the piece and put forward a solid performance in which adjudicator John Berryman placed us in 4th spot.
Unfortunately we did not quite manage to qualify this year however we will continue with our hard work for the up and coming concerts over the next few weeks. Our next contest will be the Spring Festival in May at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool where we will be competing for the Senior Trophy.
